Abstract

This study examines the effect of employee engagement and training on employee retention at PT. Bridgestone Sumatera Rubber Estate Dolok Merangir. The high turnover rate within the plantation sector, particularly among skilled operational workers, signals a critical challenge for organizations relying on specialized competencies. This quantitative research employs a descriptive and causal approach using survey-based data collection from 120 respondents selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to measure the simultaneous and partial effects of employee engagement and training on employee retention. The results indicate that employee engagement has a significant positive effect on employee retention (β = 0.412, p < 0.05), and training also has a significant positive effect on employee retention (β = 0.358, p < 0.05). Simultaneously, both variables explain 64.3% of the variance in employee retention (R² = 0.643). These findings suggest that PT. Bridgestone Sumatera Rubber Estate Dolok Merangir should prioritize structured engagement programs and systematic training to reduce turnover and sustain organizational performance.
